In the 10 and under solo category, Delaney Davis finished an outstanding fifth in just her first year as a synchronized swimmer. Delaney scored some excellent artistic impression marks on her way to her podium finish. Delaney and her duet partner, Emma Spott also finished on the podium with a 5th place in the duet event. Two teams of young swimmers, ranging in age from 6 to 10, competed in the team event finishing 5th and 8th.
In the very competitive 11-12 age group, Joelle Zavitz won the coveted figures trophy for the best figure marks in the province. Joelle and her duet partner, Sabrina Barnes also won gold in the duet competition making it the second year in a row that KW swimmers have won the prestigious duet championship. Joelle and Sabrina will swim this duet when they compete with the Ontario Provincial team and the UANA International Meet being held in Montreal August. Joelle and Sabrina also had exceptional results in the solo competition finishing 3rd and 5th respectively.
KW Synchro played host to the St John’s Sea Stars who had two teams participating in the event as exhibition swimmers. The Sea Stars brought some very unique routines and choreography to the event and had some exceptional swims. It was a rare and rewarding opportunity for local swimmers to meet new friends in the sport from Maritime Canada and a great chance for the girls to cheer and support each other.
Celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, KW has had an outstanding season fielding teams at the Recreational, Provincial, National and Masters levels. Swimmers have enjoyed many team and individual successes and personal bests. Our Masters duet and solo will be heading to Quebec next week for the final meet of the year, Masters Nationals, and we wish them all the best. The club began tryouts for next year on Wednesday, June 15th at Forest Heights Pool from 6 to 8 and offers exciting camps during the summer.
Congratulations to all the swimmers!
