KW Synchro Coaching Staff 2009/2010

Loretta
KW Synchro’s Club Leader and a member of the competitive coaching team, Loretta trained as a swimmer with the Woodstock Triple ‘C’ Synchro Club in Woodstock, New Brunswick. She began her coaching career in Slave Lake, Alberta with the Slave Lake Indicas Synchro Club.
Loretta is working towards her NCCP Level 2 coaching certification, and is also certified as a Level 2 Judge. The highlight of her 13 year involvement with synchronized swimming came in 2005 when she had the opportunity to attend the FINA World Championships in Montreal, QC and see Team Canada swim.
A recent graduate from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Loretta is currently enrolled in Conestoga College’s Event Management Post Graduate program.

Melinda
KW Synchro’s Program Leader and a member of the competitive coaching team; Melinda began her synchronized swimming career with the KW Synchro Club at the age of six, swimming provincially for two years and moving up to the national level by age nine. Melinda continued to swim nationally with KWSSC until she was 13, at which time she moved to Montreal to swim with the Montreal Synchro Club. Her swimming highlights include: Trillium Solo Champion (10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under), Duet Champion (12 and under), Team Champion (12 and under) and Figure Champion (12 and under, 14 and under); Quebec Solo and Duet Champion; National Team Champion (14 and under), National Duet silver medalist (14 and under), and fifth-place in 14 and under National Figures.
After retiring from the sport of synchronized swimming as an athlete in 2003, Melinda started her coaching career at the KW Synchro Club. She has coached athletes from the age of seven to 17, in Tiers 1 through 7, with athletes qualifying and competing at provincial and national competitions. Melinda has coached all types of routines including the 10 and under pre-set solo, solos, duets, teams and combos.
Melinda is a fully certified NCCP Level 3 coach with updated NLS, first aid and CPR, and is currently pursuing a degree in Arts and Business at the University of Waterloo, with a major in Fine Arts.

Delaney
Competitive coaching team member Delaney trained in synchronized swimming for five years, three of which were at Waterloo Regional Synchronized Swim Club and two at the national level with Olympium Synchronized Swim Club. The highlight of her swimming career was competing in the United States.
Delaney joined the KW Synchro coaching team in the fall of 2008, sharing her passion for synchro with the recreational level swimmers, and joins the competitive coaching team this season. Besides coaching, Delaney loves reading and listening to music.

Samantha
Competitive coaching team member Samantha started her synchro career with KW Synchro at 10 years of age, participating in the recreational, provincial and national programs. (You can see a photo of 12-year-old Samantha at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in the Parade of Athletes’ Hall of Fame, taken after her Gold medal performance in the Provincial Tier 4 Duet event.) Samantha continued to swim at the National level in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Toronto. Among her national highlights were a Gold in Tier 6 Solo at the 2005 Tier Championships; Gold in Tier 7 Junior and Senior Team (and Combo) at 2005-06 Provincial Trials, Championships, and Eastern Divisionals; Gold in Tier 7 Junior Team at 2006-07 Provincial Trials and Championships, fourth at Eastern Divisionals and Bronze at the Canadian Open; Gold in Tier 7 Junior Team at 2007-08 Provincial Trials and Championships, fourth at Eastern Divisionals and Canadian Open, and fifth at the USA Junior Nationals in Florida. Samantha is a three-time member of Team Ontario, winning Silver at the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, Silver at the 2008 Spanish Open in Barcelona, Spain, Gold at the 2008 US Open in Cleveland, Ohio in the Team event and Silver in the Combo event.
Last season Samantha supported several athletes in their own successful attempts to achieve Team Ontario membership. Samantha is certified as a Level 1 Official and is pursuing her NCCP Level 2 coaching certification.
Samantha is a first year student at Wilfrid Laurier University, studying Sociology.

Leanna
Recreational coaching team member Leanna swam with the London Synchro club for 10 years, competing up to the national level. Highlights of her career include winning consecutive Winter Games titles in 2004 and 2005. Leanna coached with London Synchro Club for the past three years, working with girls at the beginner and intermediate recreational level. In addition to coaching in KW Synchro’s Recreational program, Leanna will be also be swimming this year with KW’s competitive Masters team, along with attending Conestoga College full time for Advertising.

Olivia
Recreational coaching team member Olivia swam with KW Synchro for five years, going all the way up to Tier 5. After her Tier 5 season, she switched to coaching, coaching levels 1 through 3, Beginner and Intermediate levels. At Summer Camp she coached the 8 and under Beginners and had a blast! Olivia also loves to play the piano, and cello, to sing, have fun, and, of course, do synchronized swimming.

Jennifer
Recreational coaching team member Jennifer swam with KW Synchro for six years, ending her career in the national stream. Since her retirement from competitive swimming, Jennifer has been coaching recreational swimmers. She hopes that all her swimmers walk away from the sport, not only learning new synchro skills, but improving their swimming skills and life skills, just like she has.

Rhianon
Recreational coaching team member Rhianon swam competitively for five years, up to the Tier 5 level. Her synchro highlight came at the Tier 4 level when her team had an outstanding year. Rhianon has completed her NLS certification and taught swimming lessons, and is a first-year coach with KW Synchro. When she is not at the pool Rhianon loves to read and sing.

Lyndsey
Recreational coaching team member Lyndsey has trained for seven years with the KW Synchro and Waterloo Region Synchro Clubs and competed up to the national level. She has coached at KW Synchro Summer Camp for the past two years and joins the Recreational coaching team this fall. In addition to synchronized swimming, Lyndsey loves to read.
The KW Synchronized Swim Club aims to promote and provide opportunities for enjoyment, education and training in the sport of synchronized swimming. Swimmers are encouraged to maximize their individual potential in a team environment through recreational and competitive programs.

The club is continuously accepting resumes for both this season and next. We are offering positions involving anywhere from 1-15 hours per week in our Recreational and Competitive and masters levels. NCCP coaching certification is discounted through the club.
